TRAINING DAY

With a handful of flat track “events” (calling it racing would be a bit much at this point) under our belts we figured it was time to learn a thing or two about what it is we’ve been attempting to do.

Dave Ehrhart is a tried and true flat track racer. He’s got a sister who lives in Big Bear, CA, and every once in while she drops her kids off at good old Uncle Dave’s for a weekend of man instruction. She sends all of her kids to Dave when they turn ten to learn how to ride motorcycles. This particular weekend it was Nephew Jake’s turn. We’re not exactly sure how it happened but we managed to weasel our way into this desert motorcycle clinic. While Jake was off discovering his genetically coded ability to pop wheelies—much to the chagrin of Deus factory rider, Stefan Wigand, whose wheelie skills are in the “needs improvement” category— we found ourselves being schooled in the fine art of sliding left. Deus buddy and team Triple Nickel racer, Stacie B. London, took to the dirt quickly and found her slide. Wigand followed suit learning the left hand turn but also managed to find time to squeeze in a quick nap. Deus Factory Racing team manager, Julian Heppekausen, was on hand to document the whole affair. Riding fast in the dirt, as it turns out, is exactly as awesome as you’d imagine it to be.
