Not a shy eye in the house. The Portraits – Dress Up Drags Mark Four

Last year it was said that we put the “ill” in illustrious. This year, friends and family, flocked down the Temple last Sunday to well and truly stamp the “super” in superlative. We had one of everything and a couple of some. Whats more there was none of the usual shilly-shally. When the call went out for portraits, people upped and lined at the studio door straddling their minatory motors. One in and one out. Like a well oiled piece of machinery. All and sundry were there flaunting their Sunday finery, straddling and strutting in front of the cameras. Anthony, Andre and David we’re kept extremely busy for the best part of an hour trying to capture it all. If … View More

Flight of Fancy. Dress Up Drags Mark Four

Misdemeanor Maneuvers by Many Mischievous Moonlighters. Dress Up Drags Mark Four

The tri-fecta of birthdays that started this little soiree four years ago are still there but like a lot of things the Dress Up Drags has taken on a life of it’s own. To say this one was bigger and better that those before is fundamentally correct but each has been unique and they tend to deny comparison. One thing they’ve all had in common though is that it’s always been a great day at the races. People began to trundle up to the Temple in the top end of the afternoon heat. Burdened by layers of polyester and adorned in a mish mash of pagan artifacts. Biking bling. There was a flirty Flash, a Serious Syrian and a Hindu … View More

WOOLIE’S WORKSHOP + BMW GROUP DESIGN

To provide you with a small taste of the great things to come at The Emporium of Postmodern Activities, we turn to the amazing adventures of the man behind Woolie’s Workshop. Last week, after receiving a formal invitation, Woolie led Deus Ex Machina’s corps d’elite to the German state of Bavaria for a day-long meeting at BMW’s Headquarters in Munich to discuss the building of custom motorcycles with top-ranking officials of the BMW Group Design department. In attendance were Ola Stenegärd, who designed BMW’s HP2 and S1000RR models; Ola’s boss, Edgar Heinrich, who led the design for the R1150GS and R1200GS; and the big boss, the man who oversees it all, the Michelangelo of car design, Director of BMW Group Design, … View More

Apre a Milano Deus Ex Machina

Deus’ next big milestone – Italy. With the official launch of Milan looming around the corner, the boys over in Italy couldn’t help them selves, last week on the 15th they decided to open their door and invite a select few to take in the new flagship which will act as a hub and service the rest of Europe. The soft launch provided onlookers with a night of deus knowledge, Dare Jennings flew over from Australia to take centre stage with Federico and Antonio Colombo from Cinelli giving plenty of insight into Deus Italy. With so many incredible bikes, fixtures and art in the showroom. The guests were as eager as kids in a candy store, moving from one attraction to … View More

While everyone was thinking outside the box, we moved right on in.

After our wild wooly ride up the east coast of Oz from Sydney, north to Noosa, which Harrison Roach has already so eloquently waxed lyrically about, so much so that if you havent already, you gotta take some time out from your busy schedules to go back n’ check out what he’s written here on the blog. Arriving in Noosa was like turning a light on, we seeemed to burst out of the clouds and into the sun as we came over the rise and rolled down the hill into town. Sun shone upon everything. Man, it was if we couldn’t put a foot wrong. From the moment our little band of braggards hitched their rides up they were out … View More

A LIGHTLY SALTED SUNDAY MASS

Last weekend we called upon the congregation to gather at Sunday Mass in support of our friend Scott Szegeski who runs Lightly Salted in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Scott’s surf shop suffered the ravages of Hurricane Sandy this past winter and was literally hung out to dry by the insurance companies so we rallied up the Deus Ex Machina community and hosted a Sunday Mass in his honor. We’d like to thank everyone for attending and donating to a worthy man. We’d like to thank The Venice Originals for rocking the parking lot. And we’d like to extend an extra special thank you to the Malibu Surf Association who showed up with a check for $1200 for Lightly Salted’s recovery … View More

THE DUCT TAPE INVITATIONAL, NOOSA

Last Friday in Noosa, we saw the sixth installment of the Joel Tudor, Duct Tape Invitational, presented by Vans. Sixteen of the best log riders from across the world came together to slide and jive through a day of waves. First Point Noosa hadn’t seen such perfect conditions for longboarding all year. Joel Tudor, mentor of every surfer involved and brainchild of the occasion, took the crowd through the criteria from the commentators box. * “Boards must be over nine feet long. They must be single fin, with no leash or leash plug. Boards must weigh more than twelve pounds. Surfers are expected to surf as though they are the love child of David Nuuhiwa and Nat Young. Gentlemen’s rules, … View More
